Jealous Wall Duathlon Sunday 11th April,
RACE OVERVIEW
Midland Triathlon Club are pleased to announce details of their 2010 'Jealous Wall Duathlon' (5km run, 20km cycle, 2.5km run) to be held at Belvedere House, Mullingar on Sunday 11th April at 10.00am. The first run leg is a challenging 5k loop on trail paths. Transition is located on the lower terrace of Belvedere House and is followed by the bike leg which takes competitors on two 10k laps. The outward leg of each loop is fast and on newly surfaced road but returns on a more technical route. The second run leg (2.5k) returns competitors to the grounds of Belvedere and promises some variations from the original 5k loop, finishing under the shadow of The Jealous Wall.

The Rover Club of Ireland are holding their 3rd Classic Motor Show on Sunday May 9th . There will be vintage cars, tractors, motor bikes, auto jumble stalls, fun for all!
The Rover Enthusiasts Club of Ireland was formed in 1996 and caters for all models in the Rover range form the early P2 and P3 up to the SDI of the 1980’s. We also include classic Land and Range Rover off road vehicles. Our show this year will take place on Sunday May 9th in Killucan. We are hoping to improve our show from last year where we had over 700 exhibits on display with everything from classic and vintage cars through to steam engines, commercials, stationary engines, tractors and an auto jumble. For over 150 years Mullingar Show has supported agriculture and industry in Westmeath and throughout the Midlands.
Mullingar Show is run by the Committee of the Westmeath Show Society Limited, a not-for-profit company and registered charity, on their showgrounds at Culleen, Mullingar and attracts entries from across Ireland.
There are classes to reflect the traditional agricultural strengths of Westmeath in pedigree & commercial cattle and sheep showing. Horse and pony showing are traditionally very strong at Mullingar Show, with the large entry in show-jumping continuing an old tradition of excellence.
Of course, there are classes for poultry and a vibrant dog show with horticulture and cookery well-represented in the indoor section of the Show along with arts, crafts and photography.
Mullingar Show has a large trade stand area, indoor and outdoor, with stands reflecting all aspects of country and town life and living - from jodhpurs to jewellery, wellies to wine, food to fire extinguishers.
As always at Mullingar, there is entertainment for all the family - from cossack horse display, petting animals, rare breeds, to live music with Mullingar Town Band and local musicians.

Midland Triathlon Club is delighted to announce our fourth running of the Caroline Kearney Memorial Triathlon. Taking place in Jonathon Swift Park, Lilliput, on the shores of Lough Ennell, just outside Mullingar, the race takes place over much the same course as last year, The 1500m swim, is an out-and-back course, The 40km bike remains the same, two laps over a flat course, with only a few hills to test and the 5km run is only slightly modified. Fox versus trout. Runner against swimmer. Can swimmers glide across the lake before the runners run around it ? Take the Lough Challenge
Charity events where participants can either swim 1.8km across Lough Ennell or run 8 km around the lake.Both the run and swim events will start simultaneously at noon from Ladestown and finishes at Belvedere House. Open to all levels. Swimmers must have previous open water experience. In aid of North Westmeath Hospice.

Heritage Week 2010 will take place between the 21st - 29th of August.
Every year during Heritage Week over 1000 events take place throughout Ireland with events ranging from from night time bat walks, music recitals, poetry readings, historical walks, talks and re-enactments to whale watching, medieval festivals, children’s activities and wildlife and bio-diversity events.

Illustrated talk on Bats, dispelling all of the myths and detailing just how marvellous these tiny mammals really are. Followed by guided bat walk with use of Bat Boxes (which allows you to hear the bats, hunt, and communicate with each other) around Belvedere’s parkland. Walk is weather permitting (bats are far too sensible to be out in the wet or cold!). Wear warm clothing sensible footwear and small torch. Entry is free, donations if desired to Bat conservation Ireland.

Trick or Treat Trail at 12 noon sharp. Belvedere staff spends 2 hours placing treats all along Belvedere walks; but it usually only takes the large number of waiting Trick-or-treaters approx 30 minutes to clear the grounds. Belvedere’s normal entry fee applies.

Bird Walk Sunday 13th November 2009 at Belvedere House, Mullingar
Winter Weathering Bird Walk and Talk at 1pm on Sunday 13th November 2009; in association with Bird Watch Ireland Join with Alex Copland of Bird Watch Ireland as he guides the last bird walk of 2010; the theme of the walk is winter weathering. Alex will discuss native bird species and give advice on feeding garden birds over the winter… this is an excellent opportunity to ask an expert on how to help our feathered friends through the winter. The guided walk is weather dependent; wear warm clothing and sensible footwear.

Green Santa at Belvedere House, Mullingar Sunday 28th November
Narnia goes back in time, back to a time when Father Christmas wore Green robes; as in Victorian Times. Modern day Santa Claus is red because of association with Coca Cola’s 1930’s advertising campaigns and from Thomas Nast’s earlier cartoons, but before he was red he was Green.
Behind the Wardrobe is a completely new experience for Christmas. Green Santa knows his roots and has a message for children everywhere. Christmas is not just about Toys there are other gifts that are far more important. Children will visit Green Santa in his magical grotto after entering another world through the enchanted Narnia Wardrobe and will receive natural gifts. Green Santa will help the children pot up seasonal native Irish trees such as Holly and Scots pine from CRANN which the children can plant in their gardens at home. Wildflower seed shakers for creating magical fairy carpets and old fashioned Victorian Candy Canes are other Green Santa treats.

Christmas Floral Demonstration by Richard Haslam at Belvedere House, Mullingar Wednesday 8th December
Belvedere is delighted to welcome back Richard Haslam for what is fast becoming his annual Christmas Floral Demonstration at Belvedere at 8pm.
Over the course of his career, Richard has become one the country's best-known designer florists, claiming gold medals at the prestigious Chelsea Flower Show and Hampton Court Flower Show, as well as arranging flowers for the papal visit to Ireland and for visiting heads of state, including Presidents Clinton and Bush.
Richard describes his signature style as simple with a local angle, using locall
sourced materials to create his masterpieces. He has showcased this elegant and subtle
style in his new coffee-table book 'Flowers', which features stunning arrangements
pictured at local landmarks including Barna Woods.
Door will open at 7.30pm for wine reception; Floral demonstration will begin at 8pm.
All floral arrangement made on the night will be raffled on the night.
