About the Event
The Ironmind beginner’s triathlon was born out of the foundations of the “Ironmind” documentary, which aired on RTÉ 2 last November. This followed the moving and inspirational stories of four race ambassadors Colm, Jade, Orla and Mark on their honest and gripping journeys of self-discovery and pursuit to build greater understanding and control over their minds and bodies.
Using a 70.3 Ironman triathlon as a challenge to focus, the journey allowed both the viewers and these four inspiring people to have something real and tangible to measure the progress of their holistic wellness over the course of 6 months.
The documentary hit home for so many people throughout Ireland and for once put mental health at the centre of the nation’s attention. It opened up conversations in many households, workplaces and schools. The general public and online reaction was massive and really opened eyes to how many people related and took something from two hours of television.
Many people contacted A Lust For Life with enquiries about taking on their own challenge and perhaps signing up for a triathlon, one of the fastest growing sports in the country, but so many were intimidated by the thoughts of it. The open water, the seasoned triathletes flying past on bikes etc... Because of this, the organisers wanted to create an event that allowed people challenge themselves but removed some of these fears, guiding and supporting people to allow them take on such a challenge.
The swim is shallow and parallel to the shoreline, within depth and completely safe in the pristinely clean and glorious Lough Ennell, while the bike course is on flat, wide and marshalled roads, with two 10km loops, where people of all fitness levels will cycle and enjoy the buzz of the event. The run is 5km through the beautiful parkland of Belvedere House and Gardens, finishing through the gothic archway in the centre of the park. You wouldn’t even know you are running as you get lost in the scenery.
There will be bands and Dj’s playing and entertaining the crowds and families, prizes for best supporters and fans, a festival area where the best of local producers will cater for the needs of everyone, but above all there will be a positive energy that will ignite and support everyone that takes part. A magical day.
Finally, because the focus is on participation and newbies getting involved in this beginner’s Triathlon, prizes are not being awarded for 1st/2nd/3rd as usual but will be awarded for silly stuff like best celebration crossing the line, longest transition time etc. which should be great fun!

Victorian Escapade - A Group Activity
Take a step back in time to bygone pleasures at nearby Clonard House where each guest will experience a delightful mix of below stairs industriousness and upstairs luxury (with a lot of laughter thrown in). On arrival, everyone dresses as servants to do some of the household chores, prepare dessert for the gentry and out-walk your fellow-guests in a chamber-pot relay!
Then go upstairs where everyone changes attire to become Lords and Ladies. Retire to the drawing room for some parlour games, a rather elegant dance and of course the inevitable photoshoot. The event finishes with afternoon tea or dinner in the dining room - where you have the honour of being the guests at a rather grand party.
