Bloomfield boat Hire provides everything you need to have a highly enjoyable day on the lake whether you wish to take in the breath taking views and tranquil beauty of Lough Ennell or gain a new perspective on attractions such as Belvedere House by seeing them from the lake.
From the March to September 2012 you will be able to avail of boat hire facilities at Bloomfield House Hotel. Available weekends and bank holidays.
Whether for Family Fun Day Out, or a relaxing break, Bloomfield House Hotel can provide you with boats, which will allow you to explore the lake, and it's surroundings.
Our Lake Boats are available as rowing boats or pedal boats.

Kilbeggan Races
With the distinction of being the only racecourse in Ireland where horse racing is over jumps under National Hunt rules, and with a recent €2.5 million upgrade, Kilbeggan Racecourse in County Westmeath is staking its claim as one of the best-loved courses in the country.

Champagne Balloon Flights
Champagne Balloon Flights fly Belvedere House and Gardens next door to Bloomfield House Hotel generally one weekend per month. We strongly advise that you get yourself booked on a flight as early in the season as possible in case of weather postponements – this will allow you further opportunities to book back on another flight early in the season.

Kilbeggan Distillery Experience
The oldest licensed distillery in the world. Take a step back in time and visit the oldest licensed distillery in the world. Established in 1757, triple distilled malt whiskey was produced in Kilbeggan for over two hundred years. Now open as museum, guided tours follows the process from the grinding of the grain to the casking of the final product. Learn about the lives and the working conditions of the people who worked here. Peer down into the 28ft deep solid oak vats to where the yeast and worts fermented. Look as the 19th century water wheel drives the restored machinery. Watch as the cooper tightens the hoops of the oak casks. Stroll through the bonded warehouse and let the aroma of maturing whiskey arouse your senses.
At the end of the guided tour, you are treated to a complimentary sample of Kilbeggan Irish Whiskey.

Tullynally Castle Gardens
Tullynally has been owned by the Pakenhams, later Earls of Longford, since the 17th century. The original house was remodelled by the 2nd Earl as a huge rambling gothic revival castle in the early 1800’s.
Terraced lawns around the castle overlook superb 18th century parkland. The adjoining woodland gardens and walled gardens date largely from the same period and encompass a grotto of eroded limestone from nearby Lough Derravaragh and two ornamental lakes. The present owners have added Chinese gardens, and a local sculptor has made fantastic woodcarvings. The walled gardens have extensive flower borders and a avenue of giant 200 year old Irish yews. A woodland walk leads to the lower lake past plantings of giant lilies, camellias and rhododendrons. Fore Abbey
The village of Fore is in a valley between two hills. Here you will see the ancient ruins of a Christian monastery. Fore is “the town of the springs” and was named after St. Fechin’s spring, which is beside the old church. It was St. Fechin who founded the ancient Fore Abbey around 630 A.D. By 665 A.D. (the time of the yellow plague) there were 300 monks living in the community.
Between 771 and 1169 A.D. Fore was burnt 12 times.
An important aspect of Fore is the “Fore Crosses” one of which is in the village of Fore. There are 18 crosses; some crosses are plain whilst others are carved. There are spread out over 10km on roadways and in fields and beared witness to religious persecution during penal times.
Over looking Lough Lene is Slieveboy hill and “Gallagher’s Moteens” which are Bronze Age graves. These are Cist graves, which succeeded the Communal burial chambers of the New Stone Age.

Ballinlough Castle Gardens
A sense of antiquity prevails as one enters the gates of Ballinlough. Perched on a hill overlooking two lakes, the 17th century castle is the home of Sir John and Lady Nugent. The gardens were restored in 1994, and are now open to the public, together with the lakeside and woodland walks. The walled garden is divided into four walled sections. On view are herbaceous borders, a grass tennis court, lily pond, rose garden, a herb and soft fruit garden and a well stocked orchard. From the walled gardens, a white door leads to the lakeside walks with the charming water garden and its rustic summerhouse. The walk around the lake affords dramatic views of the castle and its demense.
